SUMMARY:The Walk Poem: location, character, and inspiration
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: The Walk Poem: location, character, and inspiration=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.peakradar.com/event/detail/441498407=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2012-01-07=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2012-01-07=0D=0A=0D=0ALocal Colorado poet Abby Murray will provide both a reading and learning session. After her reading she will lead discussion about what a Walk Poem entails according to The Teachers & Writers (sic) Handbook of Poetic Forms by Ron Padgett. The audience will participate in walking and studying poems, and consider how taking walks has inspired poetry since ancient Greece. Murray will present sample poems before attendees leave the classroom in groups (weather permitting). Each group will walk to designated locations (10 min.at each spot), where a provided poem will be read aloud, then given time to write. The group will reconvene, polish, and share if desired. “The best part about this workshop is coming away with at least three pieces to continue working on later. The second best part is picking up a new technique that whisks us away from our desk chairs,” says Murray.=0D=0A=Murray earned her MFA from Pacific University and currently teaches creative writing at Pikes Peak Community College. Her poetry has been published in recent issues of War Literature & the Arts, RHINO, Salt Hill, Confrontation, and Court Green, and her first chapbook, Me and Coyote, was selected for publication by Marvin Bell in the 2010 Lost Horse Press New Poets / Short Books series. Her poem 'Free Markets' was recently nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She hosts the monthly Colorado Springs Writers Reading Series at the BAC, and lives in an old house with her husband and three rescue-pets.=0D=0A==0D=0A=Poetry West is a local poetry organization that provides a forum where people who enjoy writing, reading and listening to poetry can come together to share this common interest.=0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
