    ARTS MONTH

This October, the Pikes Peak region will celebrate Arts Month as a way to highlight the quality, diversity and value of arts & culture in our community.

Orchestrated by the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region (COPPeR), our local Arts Month initiative will coincide with National Arts & Humanities Month, which was established in 1993 and is observed every October throughout the United States. The national program was initiated to encourage Americans to explore new facets of the arts and humanities in their lives, and to begin a lifelong habit of participation in the arts and humanities. Over the past two decades, it has become the nation's largest collective annual celebration of the arts. October 2014 marks the first time that the Pikes Peak region will join in this national effort.

Locally, our Arts Month initiative will take the form of a coordinated marketing campaign in print, radio, TV, billboards, and social media that is designed to raise awareness for the area’s creative community and showcase the many exciting arts & cultural events taking place across the Pikes Peak region during the month of October. Several local organizations are producing new programming for Arts Month, and others are re-scheduling existing activities to be a part of the celebration. We'll also be working closely with our elected officials to recognize and promote the importance of Arts Month through formal public proclamations. Everyone from individual artists to area business leaders is invited to participate in their own unique way!

The official home-base for Arts Month is www.peakradar.com/artsmonth. In addition to maintaining a comprehensive list of cultural activities and events taking place throughout El Paso and Teller Counties, this landing page will host a series of Arts Month video messages from area creatives, the latest news about Arts Month activities and opportunities, and special tips on how to make the most of your Arts Month experience. There is also a link to the official Arts Month “Toolkit” which features a variety of resources (logos, ready-to-use ads, draft newsletter articles, etc.) that are designed to help you get involved in Arts Month and to support our vibrant creative community here in the Pikes Peak region.

Here are a few ways that you can personally engage the Arts Month celebration:
    • Visit PeakRadar.com regularly to plan cultural outings with your family and friends,
    • Use the Arts Month logo to create a link to this web page (peakradar.com/artsmonth) from your website,
    • "Like" the COPPeR and PeakRadar Facebook pages, and use social media to help spread the word about Arts Month,
    • Volunteer your time and talent to help a local cultural organization to become more successful,
    • Make a financial contribution to support your favorite cultural organization,
    • Most importantly, get out and ENGAGE your local creative community by exploring, experiencing, and enjoying all the wonderful art and culture in the Pikes Peak region!

“Arts Month is an opportunity for us to highlight the arts in the local media, to encourage broad-based participation in the arts, to provide an opportunity for local business, government and civic leaders to declare their support for the arts, and to generally raise public awareness about the essential role of arts & culture in our community,” said Andy Vick, executive director of COPPeR.

To learn how you and/or your organization can get involved in Arts Month this October, or if you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Andy Vick at andy@coppercolo.org or 719-634-2204.
