Colorado Springs has long been a hotbed of hot air ballooning. Now you can learn about the history and adventures of this oldest form of air travel in this free, illustrated lecture. The USAFA's Head of Special Collections, Mary Elizabeth Ruwell, will introduce us to the history of ballooning using images from the internationally known Gimble Collcetion of Aeronautical History housed in the Academy's McDermott Library. Nationally recognized pioneer balloonist and Colorado Springs resident Dewey Reinhard, a founder of the local Ballon Classic, will describe his high altitude adventures and share tales form his 1977 attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean in a hot air balloon.
