Add Review/CommentIf not sure what the Sand Creek Massacre was or why it was historically important, this is your chance to catch up! The Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site was formally dedicated in April, 2007. The event followed several years of research, planning, and property acquisition that began in 1998 directed by the National Park Service to determine the location and extent of the historical site. Find out how historians, archaeologists, and other government and private professionals found the site that had been largely lost following the military destruction of Chief Black Kettle's Cheyenne and Arapaho village in 1864. Jerome A. Green served as lead historian on the Sand Creek project and is co-author of Finding Sand Creek: History, Archeology, and the 1864 Massacre Site. He has written or edited 14 books dealing with aspects of American history, particularly the Indian wars of the West. Mr. Green will conduct a book sale and signing following this program.
