An art auction of one-of-a kind musical instruments now transformed into objects of art will be held on October 6 at 7 p.m. at the Smokebrush and Bridge Galleries, 218 W. Colorado Avenue. The event is sponsored by the Pikes Peak Music Volunteers (formerly Colorado Springs Symphony Volunteers), in support of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. Local artists, professional and amateur, have transformed non-playable instruments into objects of art. The results are exciting; the diversity is amazing. A bugle is now a bird; a guitar has become a kachina doll, a violin encrusted in mosaic! The entire collection must be seen to be appreciated. We are fortunate to have such talent in Colorado Springs. Many of the instruments will be on display in galleries throughout the city for several weeks before the event. Among them are Cottonwood, Frameworks Gallery, Novis Frame and Art Gallery, and the Greater Southwest Gallery. Tickets are $25; $30 at the door. A glass of wine is included with each ticket. Tickets are available for purchase by check or credit card. Checks should be mailed to PPMV, P.O. Box 60657, Colorado Springs, CO 80960. RSVP by September 29.
