As the great Homer Simpson said to the tune of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game": "Buy some beer and beer and beer ..." This weekend's your chance to do just that as the All Colorado Beer Festival will bring many of Colorado's finest brewers to Mr. Biggs Event Center. The Festival will provide two tasting sessions from noon until 4:30 and from 5:30 until 10:00. Those in attendance will be treated to unlimited samples for the entry fee of $25 ($20 in advance). Visit the Festival web site (www.AllColoradoBeerFestival.org) or call 719-262-3232 for tickets. Military with valid IDs will receive the advance ticket price at the door. The Festival is sponsored by Blue Moon Belgian White, Pepsi, Boelter, The Gazette, Y96.9, and Hyatt Summerfield Suites. Brewers from across Colorado (over 20 are expected) will bring 60 to 75 different beers to sample. Some of the brewers already planning to attend include Coors, Blue Moon, Bristol, Breckenridge, Phantom Canyon, Boulder, Twisted Pine, Bull & Bush, Odells, Rockyard, Flying Dog, Steamworks, Shamrock, Wolf Rock, and Glenwood Canyon. The Festival will also include live entertainment and a merchandise area to get the latest brewer shirts, hats, and pint glasses. For those who don't drink, the Festival will provide a Designated Driver program with a special $10 admission fee that includes unlimited soft drinks. For those that want a closer relationship to the Festival, the volunteer program is the answer. Volunteers get free admission, a Festival t-shirt, and all the beer samples they want. To volunteer visit the Festival web site (www.AllColoradoBeerFestival.org/volunteer). In addition to providing Colorado Springs area residents a great opportunity to sample Colorado beers, the Festival will benefit both THEATREWORKS and the USO. THEATREWORKS is a professional theatre company resident at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. THEATREWORKS produces eight to ten shows in Colorado Springs annually ranging from the annual Shakespeare Festival with free tickets to residents and collaboration with the Pikes Peak Library District's All Pikes Peak Reads program to classics by the world's greatest playwrights and new works by award winning playwrights of today. For more than 66 years, the USO has provided morale and recreational services for U.S. military personnel and their families only made possible through the generosity of the American public. Today, the USO's 26,000 volunteers operate more than 132 centers around the world, providing such diverse services as free international phone cards (Operation Phone Home), care packages for deploying troops (Operation USO Care Package), support to wounded troops (Operation Enduring Care), and keeping deployed troops connected with their children (United Through Reading program). This summer a new USO center was established at Fort Carson, which will provide much-needed services to military families arriving on post and to military personnel passing through on their way to or from assignments around the world. Now, more than ever, the USO is the way for Americans to show their support for the nation's troops.
