Wrap yourself up in something appropriately epic and come to Colorado College to hear renowned artists and collaborators Christo and Jeanne-Claude as they give a free public lecture about their collaborative public art installations. The talk will specifically address two current projects: Over the River: Project for the Arkansas River, Colorado, and The Mastaba: Project for the United Arab Emirates. In their 47 years as collaborators, Christo and Jeanne-Claude have challenged and transformed definitions of public art with their ephemeral, environmentally-based installations. Monumental in scale, and almost always controversial, their projects have vexed, fascinated, and thrilled audiences worldwide. In their talk at Colorado College, the artists will discuss the current status of Over the River: Project for the Arkansas River, Colorado, and The Mastaba: Project for the United Arab Emirates. Tentatively scheduled for 2012, Over the River will consist of fabric panels suspended horizontally over the Arkansas River in Colorado. Originally conceived in 1977 and still in the planning stages, The Mastaba is a structure created from recycled oil barrels that will be larger than the pyramids at Giza. Sponsored by Colorado College Office of the President & Colorado College Art Department.
