This course will dispel some of the mystery of the paper decorating technique, guiding both beginners and experienced students on a hands-on step-by-step journey through the process – creating paper sizing, mixing and applying color, pattern making, printing, rinsing and drying the paper. In addition to the basics of watercolor marbling, the course will explore means of varying textures and producing uniquely designed sheets. ABOUT MASTER MARBLER, PAM SMITH Pamela Smith launched her marbling career nearly 30 years ago in tandem with her work as founding director of the Press of the Palace of the Governors, the Museum of New Mexico's premier small press program and working exhibition. Since her retirement from the Museum in 2001, she has taught book art courses at the College of Santa Fe and continued producing hand-marbled editions in her Abiquiu, New Mexico studio. Her MarbleSmith imprint reflects a dedication to creating unique patterns, textures, and color combinations for the finely bound book and is widely distributed in both this country and abroad. Ms. Smith’s masterful papers can also be found on display and for sale in the BAC’s Hagnauer Gallery exhibition Album Amicorum January 18 – March 1.
