Unusual images of Colorado plants are the focus of an upcoming exhibit by Brenda Biondo at the Business of Art Center's Avenue Gallery from June 4 through July 22. "Found Flora" is a series of scanographs (digital photographs made on a flatbed scanner) of plants found growing wild in the Pikes Peak region. A reception with the artist is for Friday, June 13, 5-8 pm as part of the BAC's Campus-wide Art Release Event. During frequent hikes in Manitou Springs, Colorado Springs and near her home in Cascade, Brenda collected grasses, wildflowers, vines and other plants that make up an essential part of the Western landscape. Through her images, she strives to bring greater attention to the often underappreciated beauty of these everyday plants and, indirectly, to highlight their essential role in the region's ecosystem. Using a flatbed scanner to capture the images allows the artist to present the plants in ways that encourage viewers to see the plants in, literally, a different light and to give the subjects a dimension that brings their beauty into greater focus. Ten percent of sales during the BAC show will be donated by the artist to the Palmer Land Trust.
