Add Review/CommentUte Pass, Chipita Park, Piah Street–these are just a few of the place names in Teller County that evoke the rich legacy left by the Ute Indians. The Ute's Tabeguache Band, or People of Sun Mountain, will be returning to Teller County on Saturday, August 9th, for their 8th year. Each year the Pikes Peak Historical Society creates a partnership with the Catamount Institute, Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument and their Friends group, to return the Northern Utes to their ancestral lands for ceremony and a cultural visit. These grandchildren of the famous chiefs, Colorow, Piah, and Ouray, will be performing an exhibition dance at the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument on Saturday, August 9th, at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free, however, space is limited and guests are encouraged to arrive at least half an hour early to ensure seating.
Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument is located 35 miles west of Colorado Springs and just 2 miles south of the town of Florissant on Teller County #1. For more information call 719-748-3253.
