Add Review/CommentOrganized and impromptu barbershop quartets will be harmonizing in restaurants, hotel lobbies and on street corners in Colorado Springs during the Pikes Peak Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society hosts the Rocky Mountain District annual fall convention and contests at the Pikes Peak Center. The America the Beautiful Chorus expects fifteen quartets, and 11 choruses ranging in size from 12 to over 100 men, on the contest stage singing "the good old songs," and some newer ones, too, in their four-part, unaccompanied, close-harmony style.
The contest sessions are open to the public, as is the Show of Champions on Saturday evening which will feature the 2007 International bronze medalist quartet, Storm Front, the 2007 Rocky Mountain District champion quartet, The Summit, and the newly-crowned 2008 district chorus and quartet champions.
Tickets are $15 per event and may be obtained from the America the Beautiful Chorus at www.atbchorus.com or at the door. The quartets and choruses will compete for their district championship and for the right to sing in the BHS international contest to be held in Anaheim, CA next summer. The musical competition and convention is one of two contest conventions held each year by the Rocky Mountain District which has over 35 chapters and spans nine states from Montana to New Mexico and Nebraska to Utah.
