Pikes Peak Gay & Lesbian Community Center is excited to announce the public launch of Colors of Courage, a first-time, free anthology of memoir and poetry compiled from 30 local lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) residents. The book will be released to the public on National Coming Out Day as part of a public celebration.

“The purpose of the book is to enable a broader, personal understanding of the LGBT community, focusing on childhood, falling in and out of love, parenting, spirituality and other experiences shared by all people,” says Rebekah Shardy, the book’s editor and facilitator of the Center’s OutWord Writing Group.

“These stories portray a dream of freedom and equality in progress, and a promise that one day all GLBT families will be afforded the same opportunities to live their lives freely and without fear,” says Ryan Acker, the Center’s Executive Director.

After October 11th, limited free copies will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis, one per patron, at several local churches, bookstores and coffee shops. Colors of Courage was printed with the support of Colorado College, the Colorado Springs Independent, the Pikes Peak Arts Council, and individual donations.
