This is a rare opportunity for music enthusiasts to catch the famed series that sprung on the international circuit in 1991. Mark Hummel's Blues Harmonica Blowout has opened throughout prestigious festivals and venues including Norway's Nottonden Blues Fest, San Francisco Blues Fest, Chicago Blues Fest, New York's R&B Fest, King Biscuit Blues Fest, and Monterey Jazz Fest.
Mark Hummel is a true music legend who has crafted his own trademark harmonica sound that utilizes a subtle combination of tone, phrasing and attack, combined with a strong sense of swing. Hummel's powerful musicianship and vocals have branded him a major force in shaping and defining the blues. In 1980, Hummel took the helm to lead the popular Blues Survivors have toured non-stop throughout the United States, Canada and Europe playing alongside blues greats such as Charlie Musselwhite, Brownie McGhee, Lowell Fulson, and Eddie Taylor.
Kim Wilson is the founder and bandleader of The Fabulous Thunderbirds whose '80's hits such as "Tuff Enough," "Wrap It Up" and "Powerful Stuff" ruled the airwaves and MTV for many years. The band performed regularly at Antone's in Austin, Texas during the mid 1970's, becoming a favorite of legends such as Muddy Waters, Pinetop Perkins, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Rogers, and Eddie Taylor. Wilson's musical journey started at the age of 17 in Goleta, California, where he was inspired by the sounds of Little Walter, George "Harmonica" Smith, Lazy Lester, and James Cotton. Noted for his "Little Walter" styled harp blowing, Wilson continues to perform throughout North America and Europe.
Magic Dick is the original harp man from the J. Geils Band, whose many hits flooded the airwaves during the 1970s and 1980s. Chart-toppers like "Freeze Frame", "Centerfold", "First I Look At The Purse", "Must a Got Lost", "Give It To Me" and Magic Dick's own "Wammer Jammer" were in the Top Ten off and on for 20 years and made them one of the few top bands that featured a harmonica prominently in the frontline. Dick went on to start "Bluestime" with J. Geils after the original band broke up, making two CDs for Rounder Records.
Al Chesis is one of Colorado's most well respected and finest harmonica players, fronting his own band, the Delta Sonics. The band has been featured at the 1997, 1998, and 2001 Denver Blues & Bones Festival, the Boulder/Lyons Blues Festival five times, the Yellowstone Jazz Festival, and the Westword Music Showcase in 1996 and 1997. They have opened for many nationally known blues artists, including Koko Taylor, Junior Wells, Taj Mahal, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, The Radiators, and the Fabulous Thunderbirds. In 1999 and 2004, the band brought blues piano legend Pinetop Perkins to Colorado for successful tours. Most recently The Delta Sonics have opened shows for Charlie Musselwhite and Tommy Castro, and have also backed Bob Margolin, Big Bill Morganfield, Bo Diddley, and Pinetop Perkins on their recent performances in Colorado.
