The magic of the holidays begins with a free day of family fun at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum.

"We invite everyone to start the holiday at the Pioneers Museum, where the magic of the season comes alive," says Carol Kennis Lopez, program coordinator for the Pioneers Museum.

Throughout the day, free activities for children, including holiday ornament making, sing-a-longs and, of course, magic fill the historic museum. Doors to the Pioneers Museum open at 10 a.m. with a variety of activities designed specifically for children and their families. The Colorado Springs Show Choir will perform as well as local magician Professor Higgins. In addition, visitors will be able to see model trains by local railroaders Slim Rails, weaving and spinning demonstrations by the Pikes Peak Weavers Guild, and balloon animals by Mr. Magic and Company. Visitors will also be able to view the new Gold Rush exhibit. To cap the day, the Museum will remain open through the annual Parade of Lights, which passes the museum after 5:45 p.m.. Lopez says she hopes parade goers will stop by for free hot chocolate and cookies.

The free day-long event is sponsored by the Friends of the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum as their gift to the community. Volunteer event chairs Betty Waldron and Joyce Vogel invite all the children in town to visit the Museum on this day.
