  To Nico, Tony, Mia, and Soham, Do you want to hear a funny story? I have one to tell you. I am the agent behind the apple?s presence on the podium. I balanced the little Granny Smith on the back of the microphone stand and the cord in the upper right-hand corner. Right between the audience and you. A location that I thought would provide the best mix of appreciation, comfort, and aesthetics. A location that the audience would not, could not see unless you shared its existence, a place that needed a little color. So I left you four an anonymous gift, a little surprise. An apple for you the poets, you the teachers; an apple for the enjoyment of thoughts and words, because what you say is valued and the simple unexpected presence of fruit is sweet. Collapse
