For their 11th season, Opera Theatre of the Rockies presents Kurt Weill's most successful combination of opera and musical theatre, the Tony Award-winning Street Scene. Two performances will be held in the Pikes Peak Center for the Performing Arts, the region's finest venue for opera. The show, which Weill referred to as both a "Broadway Opera" and an "American Opera" will offer the full grand opera experience: professional orchestra and cast along with period dance, costumes and sets and elaborate lighting design. Opera, Musical Theatre and Jazz bring to life Elmer Rice's Pulitzer Prize-winning play about the joys, hopes and sorrows of Depression-era tenement dwellers in New York City. Book by Rice, lyrics by Langston Hughes and music by Weill.
