Downtown Stories believes that everyone has a story to tell and was created to give those storytellers a forum. Modeled after "The Moth" in New York City, the Downtown Stories Slam series provides a stage and a microphone, a theme to inspire and shape the evening, a lively and supportive audience, and a host to guide the festivities. Stories are limited to five minutes, and ten stories are heard. Each show strives to feature a broad range of perspectives on the evening's theme by bringing together amateur storytellers from all walks of life.

    February's theme:
    Prepare a five-minute story about a beginning.

The stories are evaluated and scored by three teams of audience-member judges on creative use of theme, language and overall presentation. A winner is announced at the end of the evening. Winners will then face off in a Downtown Stories Grand Slam at the end of the season.
