Breakaway is an exhibition of Denver artist Regan Rosburg's paintings which emphasize freedom, movement, change and serenity. Rosburg incorporates resin, oil, acrylic, paper, photography, and found objects with layers of images and text. Her works are labor-intensive palimpsests achieved through an intricate, gradual, and delicate balance between calculated planning and spontaneous creativity. The results are incredibly layered, dimensional paintings that are a treat to the eye.

Regan attended the University of Colorado (Boulder campus) where she graduated with a BFA in 2000. She now lives in Denver, CO, where she teaches painting and drawing. She continues to travel to Asia and Central America for inspiration.

"I work on either canvas or masonite, and I use both water-based oils and acrylic. I layer the piece using a variety of techniques, constantly adding and subtracting on the surface to achieve balance. The entire process of creating the 3-D pieces is extremely laborious. I use many kinds of paper and fibers, as well as fabric, resin, found objects, and beautiful species of moths and butterflies. To ensure precision, I spread my own insects for the 3-D paintings, or entrust the help of a trained entomologist."
