Add Review/CommentThe Colorado Vocal Arts Ensemble brings the music of the Renaissance to the architectural and acoustical splendor of two Southern Colorado cathedrals. The first half of the concert focuses on music of Sistine Chapel in Rome, and St. Marks in Venice, with works by Josquin, Palestrina, Monteverdi, and Lotti. The second half features the music of the two English masters Thomas Tallis and William Byrd. Artistic Director Deborah Jenkins Teske says, “The sacred choral masterpieces of the Renaissance were written specifically for the great European cathedrals. The acoustics of these spaces played an integral part in how this music was conceived, and how it was meant to be heard. As sound reverberates off the hard surfaces of vaulted ceilings, pillars, and walls, it will overlap itself, adding dimension and intensity to the effect of the whole. The result is an amazing sonic tapestry- a very different experience of this music than can be had in a modern concert hall.”
