The Springs Coalition to Save Darfur and The Colorado Springs Branch NAACP have joined to bring Human Rights Activist Mark Hanis to Colorado Springs. Refreshments will be served. Mark Hanis is the Founder & Executive Director of the Genocide Intervention Network (GI-Net), an organization created with the mission to empower citizens and communities with the tools to prevent and stop genocide. Mark Hanis is the grandchild of four Holocaust survivors. He worked for the Office of the Prosecutor at the Special Court for Sierra Lieone. The charity has recruited 1,700 members who attend its educational events, and has signed up 12,500 people for e-mail alerts. It has also raised more than $1.6- million. GI Nets consists of many projects: STAND, The Student Divestment Task Force, 1-800-GENOCIDE, and www.darfurscores.org. In April, the Genocide Intervention Network brought 800 students to Washington for two days of training on how to lobby Congress.
