George Whitesell & His All Stars featuring Jill Watkins return to the Stargazers Theatre and Event Center with local favorites Mango Fan Django.

In 2007, George Whitesell & His All Stars featuring Jill Watkins released their first cd Skat, on Colorado Springs-based Circle 504 Records. Produced by well-known Chicago blues man Ken Saydak, Skat features guest artist Bob Margolin, a long time sideman for blues legend Muddy Waters. Formed in 2006 with seasoned musicians from the Colorado Springs area, George Whitesell's All Stars feature Boulder vocalist Jill Watkins, a well-known powerhouse entertainer. After their debut, the All Stars quickly became favorites on both the jazz and blues festivals within Colorado. Past performances include the Trinidaddio Blues Festival, Delta Uncompahgre Blues Festival, Estes Park Jazz Festival, Blues Under the Bridge, Belvedere Blues Festival and the Keystone Wine Jazz and Art Festival.

Mango Fan Django is a Colorado Springs-based Gypsy Jazz instrumental band. Founded in 1998, they were inspired by the Belgian guitarist Django Reinhardt, and incorporate several genres including Gypsy Swing, Calypso, Waltz, and Reggae.

Recently Mango Fan Django and George Whitesell & His All Stars featuring Jill Watkins performed together to an overflowing audience at the Showcase at Studio Bee in the Pikes Peak Center in support of a CD both bands performed on, Sounds of the Pikes Peak Region. Produced by the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region (COPPeR) and culled from more than 100 entries, the CD features an eclectic mix of songs from local artists.

"Since both bands are on Sounds of the Pikes Peak Region and performed together recently, it made good sense to have Mango Fan Django join us at Stargazers," explained Whitesell. "Our music is complimentary to each other and this pairing makes for a great concert."
