"Shades of Blue" - Blues & Jazz

    Rissman, Uvegas, Braithwaite
Susan Rissman, Joe Uveges and KJ Braithwaite discovered something in that group that they all shared, a love for quality original songs and a dedication to a vocal delivery that engaged themselves and their audience. Susan Rissman, one of the premier female vocalists on the scene in Colorado Springs, has performed virtually every venue the Springs has to offer. Her voice is one part pop Diva, one part growling Queen of Soul, one part hopeful girlish folkie and one part heart broken lover. Her delivery can raise goose bumps or blood pressure. KJ Braithwaite, an Eric Clapton-esque guitar player and a songwriter with a flair for a hooky chorus has played literally hundreds of venues in the course of his career. A musician who has consistently dedicated himself to his songwriting craft and his love of the guitar, Joe Uveges has eight albums to his credit, two of which have been awarded "Best Of" by the Gazette (Promise of Portage (2004) and One Down, One Across (2002)). A prolific songwriter who has penned more than 800 songs, Uveges performs numerous private events around the country--often writing songs for the events. The release of the Rissman-Uveges-Braithwaite CD Driving signals a new level of commercial achievement for all three. The album was described as "Outstanding" by Gazette critics upon it's release.

    Swing Factory
Under the direction of Craig Harms, this 18-piece big band is an all-volunteer jazz ensemble primarily from the Woodland Park Wind Symphony. The band is comprised of teachers, doctors, tax preparers, students, authors, soldiers, and retired individuals who simply enjoy playing their instruments.

    Channel Cats
Their repertoire includes a mix of both contemporary and traditional blues, swing, and R&B covers as well as many original tunes. Any Channel Cats show can be summed up with one word, FUN! Dale Creel - guitar and vocals, Jack Baker on drums, Ed Liptak on tenor saxophone, and Mark Accord, bass and vocals.

Bring your lawn chairs or blankets. There will be food and beverages available for purchase. The Woodland Music Series will be selling wine and beer. (I.D. Required!) Varied craft vendors will be on the premise. Kids activities are also part of the fun.
