The 10th annual Lavender Film Festival opens with a reception and a double feature. Come at 6 p.m. for a complimentary catered reception with wine and beer.

I Can't Think Straight: From the director of last year’s hit film, The World Unseen, comes this humorous new feature of love between a well-to-do Palestinian Christian woman and a woman living in England with her Indian Muslim family. Tala and Leyla could not be more different but the attraction is immediate. Tala’s family is preparing an ostentatious wedding to her fourth fiancé. Tensions mount, as both women must be true to themselves despite family wishes and traditions. With this feel-good coming-out movie, we will laugh our way into the Festival. (Directed by Shamin Sarif 2007, UK, 82 min.)

Patrik, Age 1.5: A married male couple, who seem to have it all, want the same as their hetero neighbors: a child. When news of a young Patrik arrives, the two men are bubbling with anticipation only to be surprised by the child they’re offered. This beautifully shot feature is a heart-warming drama of genuine love, sensitivity and humor. Winner of the prestigious Guldbagge Awards in its native Sweden and the Audience Award this year at the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival. (Directed by Ella Lemhagen 2008, Sweden, 100 min.)

The Pikes Peak Lavender Film Festival is the only completely LGBT film festival in Colorado, and has been held in Colorado Springs since 1999. The festival programmers select from the best short films and features screened at the annual San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival. The Lavender Film Festival is held over a three-day period, opening on a Friday evening with a reception and continuing through Sunday.
