"Uncle Dennis?:" Rummaging through family photos and home movies, the filmmaker reflects on his great-uncle Quentin Crisp's relationship to the idea of family and his family's relationship to the idea of Quentin Crisp. (Directed by Adrian Goycoolea 2009, U.K., 18 min.)

An Englishman in New York: The inimitable Quentin Crisp was considered the first out British man over eight decades ago. Crisp was outlandish, outspoken, totally non-conforming and utterly fascinating. When no one dared mention homosexuality, Crisp bragged about his identity. Whereas Crisp’s The Naked Civil Servant went against the heterosexual grain in the U.K., An Englishman in New York (starring John Hurt in a reprisal role) is a moving tale about an older man who still refuses to follow the rules even within gay culture. With an all-star supporting cast of Cynthia Nixon, Swoosie Kurts and Denis O’Hare, Crisp’s long life is a significant slice of gay history that you will surely want to know. (Directed by Richard Laxton USA, 74 min.)

The Pikes Peak Lavender Film Festival is the only completely LGBT film festival in Colorado, and has been held in Colorado Springs since 1999. The festival programmers select from the best short films and features screened at the annual San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival. The Lavender Film Festival is held over a three-day period, opening on a Friday evening with a reception and continuing through Sunday.
