    Judy Piazza, a favorite performer at the Manitou Music Festival, is coming to Venue 515 for three days to teach a series of workshops  and perform her Drawn to the Rhythm concert.

    Judy is nationally and internationally known for her extraordinary talents, exceptional skill, and generous, joyful spirit as performer and workshop presenter. She continues to study and be inspired by sound traditions from various world cultures. Most recently, she has performed at The Kennedy Center Arabesque Fest (with Elmaz Abinader), at the Bali Spirit Festival (with Tony Khalife) and Bali Tribal Music Tours Retreat, at Sacred Maya Journey to the Yucatan, at The Om Ball and Chants 4Change as part of the 2009 inauguration events (with Saul David Raye), and at the National Women's Music Festival.     Come experience and learn about Sanskrit mantra in simple call and response style (kirtan) as we explore the dimensions of the natural voice and its potential to create harmony, coherence, and joy through sacred play (lila, pronounced leelah). We'll still our minds, open our hearts, and liberate our spirits through joyful, playful and devotional chant! No experience necessary! Our voices will be supported by the incredible sounds of the new, one-of-a-kind dulsitarTM (crafted in Manitou Springs Dulcimer Shop!).     FRAME DRUM BLISS, TARS & TAMBOURINES
    Saturday September 19th, 9:30-11:00 am
    $10 in advance $15 at the door
    Explore the world of frame drums with and without jingles, the oldest of skin drums, found in almost every culture on Earth. After a brief demonstration and historical context of various frame drums from around the world, you'll develop your ability to speak the language of these beautiful drums with their diversity of sounds (beginners and those with experience are welcome!). We'll play traditional rhythms as well as make up our own. You'll learn exercises to practice with, to develop speed, dexterity, and combinations of strokes. We'll play in ensemble, blending voice and motion with rhythms on the drums. Bring any frame drum (tambourines with two rows of jingles, or frame drum with no jingles), or use what is available.     RHYTHMS & SONGS FROM AROUND THE WORLD
    Saturday September 19th- 11:15 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
    $10 in advance $15 at the door
    Join together in joyful community rhythm and song! We'll learn from traditions of Native America, W. Afrika, and Brazil, as well as play from our hearts. Instruction will be focused on developing ability to play the djembe, including coaxing the diversity of sounds from this amazing drum as well as developing skill and technique, All drums and voices are welcome! Join in joyful community, rhythm, and song! Bring any percussion instrument, or use what is available.
