    The Matt Wilson Quartet, will be performing at Venue 515, located at the Business of Art Center, 515 Manitou Avenue, Manitou Springs, CO, on Friday, October 9, 2009. Show time is 8:30 pm. Opening the show will be local jazz favorite Ricky Sweum and his band. Drummer, composer, bandleader, educator and Palmetto recording artist Matt Wilson possesses the ability to connect with people. As a sideman to such jazz notables as Charlie Haden, Dewey Redman and Lee Konitz among many others, his open mind and joyful spirit lifts the bandstand. As a bandleader, his infectious creative spirit allows his band and the audience to share in the excitement of the moment. He is not afraid to challenge, entertain and have fun! (You'll have fun too!) Since moving to New York in 1992, Wilson has established himself as one of the most imaginative jazz artists of his generation. He has performed on over 160 recordings and has toured throughout the world. He was voted Jazz Drummer of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association in 2003 and for the past three years has been voted #1 Rising Star Drummer in the Downbeat International Critics Poll as well as prominent mentions in the Jazz Artist and Composer categories. Since 1997 the Matt Wilson Quartet, as a band, has exposed literally thousands of students to the joys of improvised jazz music. Their fun-loving approach allows students to express themselves and explore. They believe that ?playing? is the path to discovery. Each member of the quartet is a passionate educator devoted to opening up the student?s potential. They are able to communicate ideas on a broad range of topics and do so in a caring and easy to understand fashion. Bristol Brewery has graciously donated beer which will be sold during the Free Art Exhibit from 5-8pm at the BAC and during the concert. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Business of Art Center (BAC) and the Broadmoor Academy of Music (BAM).?

        Tickets: Tickets for this concert are $20 in advance and $25 the day of show. Tickets are available on line at www.amusiccompanyinc.com and at the Canvas Caf? at Venue 515. Students with ID may purchase a ticket at the Canvas Caf? at Venue 515 for $15.
