Chamber Orchestra of the Springs Season Premiere
October 10-October 11, 2009

The Chamber Orchestra has a reputation for bringing new and wonderful music (and plenty of "forgotten gems") into the lives of Springs residents. Bohuslav Martinu's vaguely named "Overture" is a tour de force for orchestra that he later acknowledged as one of his finest works, while Tchaikovsky's First Orchestral Suite, though rarely performed, is mature and vibrant music composed on a break from symphonic form after his Fourth Symphony. Completely new to Colorado Springs is the music of Rebecca Clarke, a British composer of American heritage whose inspired and lyrical music is only now getting the recognition it deserves.
Bohuslav Martinu: Overture
Rebecca Clarke: Sonata for Violin and Orchestra - with guest artist Cathy Hanson, viola
Pyotr Ilyitch Tchaikovsky: Orchestral Suite No. 1 in D Minor, op. 43
