    Soulmate with Saptak and Grass It Up

    Don't miss this wonderful culturally-diverse concert from Soulmate, a blues band from India, performing in the evening after Manitou Springs' annual Mardi Gras celebration.

    Opening the show will be Saptak, performing traditional Indian music. Known for performances at the annual Diwali Festival of Lights event. Saptak highlights the rich cultural heritage of India. Members of Saptak and their instrumentation are: Jay Patel (Dholak), Paritosh Rohilla (Octopad), Nikhil Patwardhan (Sitar), Chris Rehorn (Guitar) and Sourabh Basak (Tabla).

    Grass It Up, one of the area’s most popular Bluegrass bands takes the stage next to perform a short set, after which they'll join Saptak on stage for an interesting musical mixture which could best be described as “East meets West.” Members of Grass It Up are; David Jeffrey (Mandolin), Ben Lewis (Fiddle), Shannon T. Carr (Banjo) and Stefan Doucette (Upright Bass).

    The concert is the brainchild of local music promoter Amy Whitesell, who, through her business, A Music Company Inc., brings many concerts of varying types of music to the Pikes Peak region. “I think it’s wonderful to have Soulmate available”, explains Whitesell. “We usually don’t associate the Blues with a band from India, but Soulmate is in the country to compete at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis this January and they are performing a few concerts while in the states. Through my association with Imagination Celebration, I met people from the local Indian community and learned of the musicians who perform annually in Diwali, A Festival of Lights, and thought this would be a fantastic opportunity to present a great, culturally diverse show. Saptak has wanted to perform with Grass It Up and this presented the perfect opportunity for them.”

    Marc Snyder, Mayor of Manitou Springs will welcome Soulmate to our community. The Pikes Peak Library District will be video-taping the show for a future broadcast on their cable channel.

        Tickets: Tickets are $12 in advance and $17 the day of show. India Palace restaurant will provide a buffet prior to the show. Tickets for the buffet and show are $25 in advance and $32 the day of show. Tickets may be purchased online at www.amusiccompanyinc.com or at Black Cat Books, 720 Manitou Ave., Manitou Springs, CO.
