Army SGT Tim “TJ” Johannsen, from Elizabeth Colorado, was on his second deployment for Iraq when he was left with a double amputee. During his service of June 2007, an IED exploded through the floor bed of an HMMWV, rolling the vehicle and immediately amputating his right leg below the knee and left leg above the knee. The medic and medevac team quickly stabilized TJ and transported him to a local hospital. TJ enjoys spending time with his wife, Jackie. He loves outdoor activities, including; golf, fishing, biking, and snowboarding. He can also be found with his nose in a book. His goals for the year are to complete his Masters Program in Prosthetics and eventually work in that field—helping those who are learning to live with daily challenges. With the assistance from Homes For Our Troops, TJ says that he is now more independent and comfortable in his new home. http://www.homesforourtroops.org/site/PageServer?pagename=TimJohannsen Marine Lance Corporal Kade Hinkhouse was in Iraq in October of 2005. While patrolling one evening, the convoy he was riding in was hit by a dual stacked IED. The HUMVEE exploded, ejected Hinkhouse leaving him near death. His injuries included; depressed skull fracture, collapsed lungs, and a severe leg injury. Immediately, he was airlifted to Germany where it was concluded that his right leg needed amputation and nearly 45% of his skull needed to be removed to alleviate swelling and allow his brain to heal. After returning the US, Hinkhouse spent several months at Bethesda Naval Medical Center before transferring to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He spent more than a year recovering from cranial plastic surgery to his skull, and endured many hours of rehabilitation. Hinkhouse is pleased to be living in Colorado near his family. He enjoys fishing, hunting, and camping. He is part of a shooting team and aspires to get involved with the US Paralympics Shooting Team. He also has goals to further his education and hopefully become and X-Ray Technician. http://www.homesforourtroops.org/site/PageServer?pagename=KadeHinkhouse Fashion Show coordinators: Saboz For more information about this amazing organization, visit www.homesforourtroops.org/cofashion Contact Linda or Tawni to participate in this benefit at 719-578-1819.
