In its twelfth year, Art on the Streets is a yearlong public art exhibition to showcase the works of new as well as celebrated artists from across the country while enlivening the downtown Colorado Springs cityscape and urban experience. Art on the Streets has influenced purchase and permanent installation of many of the nearly 50 works of public art in downtown Colorado Springs. More than 150 works of art have adorned downtown Colorado Springs since Art on the Streets began in 1999. A reception announcing the winners and selections will be June 18 at 5:30 p.m.
Program juror, Jan Schall, Sanders Sosland Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, MO, will announce all of the selections and the top three winners of the $25,000 prize pool at the Art on the Streets opening reception on June 18. Dr. Schall holds a doctorate in art history from the University of Texas at Austin and a masters degree in art history from Washington University in St. Louis. Schall oversaw the renovation and reinstallation of the Museum's Kansas City Sculpture Park and developed and implemented both the program and installation of the modern and contemporary collection in the expanded Museum.
