Colorado Springs has been chosen as the site for the 2010 National Association of Negro Musicians Convention (NANM). Held for its 91st consecutive year, the Convention is the cornerstone event for NANM which was founded in 1919 to "promote, preserve and support all genres of music created or performed by African-Americans."
“NANM is the oldest music organization supporting African-American music,” said Peggy Shivers, co-founder of the Shivers Fund at Pikes Peak Library District, Director of NANM’s Rocky Mountain region and the founding member of the Pikes Peak Area Branch of NANM.
The convention features a Gala Concert featuring Ms. Dianne Reeves, a scholarship contest, a world-class array of discussion, master classes and workshops, and an awards banquet highlighting the achievements of some of Colorado's great musicians (including our own Martile Rowland and John Bowen, as well as the great Metropitan Opera Tenor George Shirley). The 91st NANM Convention is a wonderful experience for performers, teachers, researchers and lovers of music.
