"36 Views of Pikes Peak" takes its inspiration from the Japanese woodcut series "36 Views of Mount Fuji". For the Bridge show, nearly two dozen local artists, including gallery members and invited guests, will exhibit pieces based on Pikes Peak in a variety of styles and media. "The Great Wave at Kanagawa" is the most famous image from Katushika Hokusai’s 19th century series. Pikes Peak is a popular subject for local artists since it dominates our environment. It is also considered America's most famous mountain much like Mt. Fuji is Japan's, so it seemed natural to use Hokusai's series as a starting point for an exhibit about our peak. Additionally Fujioshida, the city at the foot of Mt. Fuji, is a Sister City of Colorado Springs. Evidence of the sister city relationship can be seen in the displays in city hall, the red gate on the median downtown on Nevada Avenue and a youth exchange-student program, including one this year the end of July. Come see what we see!
