The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is proud to present its upcoming exhibit So Far From Home: The American POW Experience in WWII. This poignant exhibition will recognize and honor the sacrifices of American military personnel, through objects and narratives drawn from local collections. Most of the artifacts and images featured have never been on public display. These items tell the real stories of soldiers and airmen who spent time in prisoner-of-war camps in both the European and Pacific theaters of war. The exhibit explores ways in which soldiers adapted to and survived impossible circumstances.

"The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is honored to share these remarkable and moving stories of survival," says museum director Matt Mayberry, "they are all the more meaningful today given our community's close connection to the impact war has on soldiers and families." The Museum will also host programs, special tours, and events to help citizens connect these stories to the enduring legacy of military service in the Pikes Peak region.

So Far From Home opens to the public on July 17 and runs through May 2011.
