Ready! Steady! Go! And the Inaugural Four Play Challenge kicks off the new MAT season as writers, directors and actors come together to create and stage four new theatre pieces in 164 hours from start to finish. Writers, actors and directors will gather at the MAT on Friday October 8th beginning at 6:30 p.m. for the announcement of this year’s theme. They will then have 44 hours to write a short play exploring the theme using an assigned number of actors. The four directors will review all the scripts and select four for production. Selected writers, directors and actors will then have four days to produce the work which will open for four public shows October 15 through the 17.

The Manitou Art Theatre is dedicated to the creation of new work and we believe the “on your feet” collaboration between writer, director and actor yields the most exciting live theatre. We are jump-starting the process by compressing the given working time and specifying the broad theme and a varying number of actors just to keep everybody honest. We hope to embrace the dreaded opening night deadline and turn it into something lively, challenging and fun for all.
