Bring your lunch to Cottonwood Center for the Arts for Joe Barrera’s highly anticipated lecture.  The lecture includes a powerpoint presentation of interesting and colorful images regarding the apparition of Mary the Mother of God to the Indian Juan Diego--with Her Spanish and Nahua (Aztec) origins, all inextricably intertwined. The icon of Guadalupe is an artist's delight, with much hidden symbolism
to decipher. It's a fascinating story, and regardless of whether or not we choose to believe it, the tale of the Indian Virgin
provides some strong lessons on the power of iconography and religion to change a people's destiny.

Dr. Barrera's November lecture "The History of Dia de los Muertos" was an engaging 5 star event. I am looking forward to "Our Lady de Guadelupe."
