The first thing you notice about a Great Big Sea concert is that everyone is happy. The last thing you notice about a Great Big Sea concert is that everyone leaves very happy. Fans go to a Great Big Sea concert expecting to have a good time, knowing that the band is going to give it their all. And it’s a two-way street, since the band knows the audience is going to give their all too. GBS lead singer Alan Doyle explains it this way, “Great Big Sea is not a band you just go see, or a cd you just listen to. Great Big Sea is something you have to do.”
Great Big Sea is simply a Great live band. They do what they do like no one else. They are often described as “Celtic/folk-rock”, but, their unique music is respectfully rooted in the traditional sounds of and their Newfoundland’s seafaring history and western European immigrants and then redefined by the band member’s broad range of musical influences, writing skills and musicianship. Whatever it is that makes them special, along the way GBS has millions in record sales and are musical heroes to fans ranging from kids to college students to adults of all ages.
