The Manitou Art Theatre in collaboration with New York performance artist Bill Bowers presents the premiere of “The Heyokah Project – A Contrary Performance”. A new play devised by Bill Bowers, Jim Jackson and a cast of eight area actors, poets and musicians that explores what it means to be different, to be the Other, the Outsider in society. It celebrates the idea of the Heyokah, the clown from the Lakota Sioux culture who asks the dangerous questions, balances the sacred with the profane and encourages us to laugh at ourselves. Using mask, movement, physical comedy, poetry and music the actors weave myth and personal narrative into a powerful performance revealing the good and bad that comes from being on the outside looking in.
