    The 5th Annual Women's Playwriting Festival

    The Manitou Art Theatre in collaboration with the Six Women Playwriting Festival will present six new ten minute plays selected from over 300 submissions in a national contest. The theme for the Play Writing Festival this year is “Changes” and these six plays captured it with playful eloquence.

    The plays, directors and casts are:
    • “Glutton for Punishment” by Catherine Noah of Medford, OR. A...

The theme for the Play Writing Festival this year is “Changes” and these six plays captured it with playful eloquence.

    The plays, directors and casts are:
    • “Glutton for Punishment” by Catherine Noah of Medford, OR. A comedy about a woman who must defend her karmic record to Satan, a beleaguered bureaucrat who toes the company line that the Catholics were right all along. Directed by Lisa Siebert, with Jennifer Mulson and Jeff Miller.
    • “Off to Summer” by Tira Palmquist of Irvine, CA. Drama - Despite her father's protests, Debra finds a way to make his necessary introduction to a retirement home palatable in this drama. Directed by Birgitta De Pree, with LeAnne Carrouth and Mike Miller.
    • “I Thought I Liked Girls . . .” by Nicole Pandolfo of New York, NY. In this comedy, Lucy confesses to her parents that, after a lifetime as a lesbian, she’s discovered she’s straight. Directed by Tracy Mobley-Martinez, with Tracy Hunziker, Steve Emily and Robin Faris.
    • “A Sky Full of Stars” by B.J. Burton of Wayne, PA. A comedy in which Mary struggles to write her romance novel and gets help from her characters and her next-door neighbor. Directed by Eve Tilley, with Ashley Crockett, Armour Ratcliffe, Jeff Miller and Robert Tiffany.
    • “Is It Wednesday?” by Pam Calabrese MacLean of Antigonish, Nova Scotia. A comedy featuring two elderly women who make a surprising discovery while chatting at a bus stop. Directed by Eve Tilley, with Sue Bachman and Sallie Walker.
    • “How to Make a Sweet Potato Pie” by M.E.H. Lewis of Evanston, IL. A drama about June, a war vet, who tries to readjust to civilian life while making a sweet potato pie with her mother-in-law. Directed by Warren Epstein, with Kathy Paradise and JaNae Stansbery.

    Parking:

    There is plenty of on and off street parking at the MAT. You can park along either Pecan or Spectra Streets. Parking is available next door at the Japanese Auto Specialists (uphill), and in the alley area behind the theater (go past the building and turn left). Handicap Parking is available at the rear of the building with direct access to stage seating.
