    Japanese Children's Day Festival

    The Japan America Society of Southern Colorado (JASSC) will celebrate "Kodomo-no-Hi" (Japanese Children's Day - a day to honor and celebrate all children) with a fun-filled festival that will include many hands-on traditional Japanese activities and craft-making such as origami, calligraphy, koto musical instrument playing, and carp making.     The Japan America Society of Southern Colorado (JASSC) will celebrate "Kodomo-no-Hi" (Japanese Children's Day - a day to honor and celebrate all children) with a fun-filled festival that will include many hands-on traditional Japanese activities and craft-making such as origami, calligraphy, koto musical instrument playing, and carp making. Volunteer teachers will coach children in making the craft items. All supplies will be provided and children may take home everything they make, just in time for Mother’s Day.
    Traditional Japanese festivities that will include Ninja and Martial Arts demonstrations, dancing, music and a Taiko (Japanese drums) performance. The final event will be a Gala Children’s Fashion Show, a popular photo-op event. All children are reminded to wear their kimono’s, yukata’s, martial arts uniforms, and oriental costumes so that they can be a participant in the Fashion Show.
    Organized by JASSC, Children's Day Festival is co-sponsored by the German, Russian, and East Asian Language Department of Colorado College.
    The Colorado Springs branch of Yamato Corporation has made a generous donation that has made it possible for everyone to attend at no cost.
    Japanese food and drink, calligraphy t-shirts, and other items will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds going to the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund.
    The event is sponsored by the Japan-America Society of Southern Colorado (JASSC), a non-profit, tax exempt, educational and cultural organization promoting increased awareness, education, and understanding between the citizens of Southern Colorado and Japan. JASSC provides opportunities for education and social enrichment through a variety of programs, classes, and cultural events.
