Rope is a thriller in the tradition of Agatha Christie that features two bored upper-class intellectuals, Granillo and Brandon, who kill an unsuspecting and innocent friend, just for the experience. Following the murder, the two put the victim’s body inside a chest. To further increase the thrill of the murder, and to prove their intellectual superiority the couple throw a dinner party scheduled to start just after the murder takes place. They invite the victim’s father, his aunt, a lovely young woman (invited for her “youth, innocence, and good spirits”), a dashing young gentleman with an uncanny resemblance to the deceased, and a fellow intellectual. As a final gruesome touch, dinner is served off the chest containing the corpse. Rope was first produced in 1929, was filmed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1948 and remains to this day one of the classics of thriller genre.
