The Modbo; Saturday, July 23rd, 8 pm, Paul Riola’s Cellar Door. $5-7 suggested donation. Cellar Door is a new project from Denver based producer and saxophonist Paul Riola. Steeped in the deep grooves of the record bin, Cellar Door is a new trio of live musicians creating a seamless downtempo DJ Set. Building from scratch a unique electronic set, refusing to conform to the preconceived ideas of a laid back style, with a heavy mixture of hip hop, weighty jazz, broken beats, Latin, funk, and soul, with the occasional cheeky bit of psyche rock and drum and bass thrown in.
Cellar Door is comprised of Paul Riola: Saxophones, Electronics, Beats and Samples. Tim Hochman: Bass. Yong Bakos: Keyboards and Thomas Chester Murray: Guitar

S.P.Q.R.; Sunday, July 24th, 8 pm, Alameda with The Ghost of Michael Clark. $5-7 suggested donation.
Don’t miss your chance to see Alameda, a new Portland-based outfit founded by singer/guitarist Stirling Myles and cellist Jessie Dettwiler. Compared to the baroque pop of Nick Drake and the slow-core dream pop of early Low, Alameda blends orchestral arrangements with modern instrumentation, thus blurring the lines of genres and moods and offering a lush backdrop for Myles' folk-inspired songs.
