With harmonies, banjo, and trombone, Paper Bird’s music takes listeners to a time and place where life is easy and relaxed.
Paper Bird is an eight-piece folk/Americana, jazz, indie band composed of sisters Genny and Esme Patterson (vocals); brother and sister Mark (percussion, typewriter) and Sarah Anderson (vocals and cornet/trumpet); Tyler Archuletta (trombone); Macon Terry (upright bass); Paul DeHaven (guitar); and Caleb Summeril (banjo).
Paper Bird formed in 2006, and self-released their first album, Anything Nameless and Joymaking, in 2007. They released two EPs in the years preceding their second full-length album in 2010, When the River Took Flight. In fall 2010, Paper Bird began working with Ballet Nouveau Colorado. The band composed the music for a ballet entitled Carry On; their music was then combined with the choreography and films to create a multi-media performance.
Spirits of the Red City is a group of musicians living in Minneapolis, Chicago, New York, and Alaska who come together to build a home in their creative work. Vocal harmonies swell above rhythmic and melodic stringed instruments, accordion, and drums to create music that is at once expansive and intimate. Dedicated to sharing their art and building community, Spirits has spent countless hours touring throughout the country. Playing venues ranging from theaters and art galleries to backyards, ocean piers and caves, they've been honored to share stages with friends Dark Dark Dark, Paper Bird, Dovekins, Elephant Micah, Joe Manning, Some Say Leland, and many others. They have released one full-length record, Hunter Moon, and two 7-inches. They are currently working on their second full-length record.
The Claptet is a group formed by Jeff Porter in late 2010 to perform for bundles of elementary schools in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Their music is a highly crafted conglomeration of body slapping, singing, rapping, dancing, mbira playing, and drumming. You just really gotta see it!
