Roger Carlson, US Airforce Lt. Col. Ret., is a local impressionist oil painter who has shown and sold pieces across the United States. Many of his subjects represent life in the West and Midwest with emphasis on the Rocky Mountain Region.

His military paintings focus on both historical events and his personal time spent in the Air Force. "Red Tail Diving on ME-109", on display at Cottonwood on Tejon, honors the service of the Tuskegee Airman, the 332nd Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group of the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He achieves a soft look to landscapes and action scenes through the use of complementing color and value and by using the technique of analogous fractured color. He has worked as an independent artist for many years with most of his works being sold to collectors and corporate entities in the United States. He places his works in galleries selectively for specific events and shows.
