52 cards in a deck! 52 scenes in a couple’s relationship! Toss the deck into the air, pick up the cards one at a time and you have a new play every night. Superb acting with Gemma Wilcox (Shadows in Bloom) and Sam Elmore. The story: very simple. They meet, they fall in love, they fall out of love, they break up. 52 cards in a deck. 52 scenes from a couple's relationship. The title of each scene is written on a card. At the start of the show the deck is shuffled and tossed in the air. The actors pick up the cards one at a time, which determines the playing order of the scenes. This award winning production has toured throughout the U.S and Canada and plays at the MAT for two weekends only.

AWARDED BEST-OF-FEST & SELL OUT HIT SHOW AT BOULDER INTERNATIONAL FRINGE FESTIVAL 2008

“This is provocative, eerily personal theatre [...], achingly (or hilariously) familiar.”
    - Melissa Martin, Winnipeg Free Press

“Slick, well-paced, and completely fun to watch."
    -CBC Winnipeg

"52 Pick Up" requires ferocious and fully committed performances, and that's what Gemma Wilcox and Sam Elmore have honed...These two are confident and comfortable together. Between scenes they circle each other like animals in heat, then dive in to whatever scene comes up with abandon and total trust. It all makes for a quick evening that's at times funny, passionate and sad, but at all times honest..."

“If you can only go to one show this festival, 52 Pick Up would be a good choice…A romantic relationship that is complex, funny, infuriating, passionate, Mars vs. Venus typical, funny (oh, did I already say funny?, well, it’s very funny), and frighteningly familiar…Wilcox and Elmore pull off this amazing feat of acting with extraordinary subtlety. Each scene is compelling and I was moved in every direction…This show is clearly the work of experts.”

“52 Pick Up is an example of some of the best of what the Fringe has to offer: clever and witty, it nonethless hinges on strong acting…The real strength of this piece is the performers' one-hundred percent commitment to the physicality of their scenes…It is the subtle facial expressions, body language, and the impeccable comic timing of Elmore and Wilcox that actually imbue the scenes with emotional content…Genuine conflict and specific details are delivered with ironic humour and tenderness…The script is intelligently written.”
    - Kirstie McCallum, Plank (Vancouver 2010)

"52 Pick Up is a enlightening and fun take on the vicissitudes of love."
    - Bob Bows, Colorado Drama

"Wilcox and Elmore bring subtlety and ingenuity to the scenes…They make an intriguing game of the card pick-up, moving through it in a dance-like, synchronized way, watching each other intently, silently teasing and challenging…Elmore has a ruffle-haired charm and a good sense of humor, but most of the evening's piquancy is provided by Wilcox, who intrigues you through combinations of opposites: the contradiction between the dancer's hardness of her torso and the soft roundedness of her moves, for instance, and the fact that her emotions well up with such spontaneity but are expressed with a mime's skilled professionalism”
