If you’re a rock and blues purist, this is a show not to be missed!
Our monthly Starburn’s Rock Showcase features the finest regional rock and blues musicians. It’s hosted by Starburn, a local rock band whose members include music scene veterans Dale Creel and Jack Baker (formerly of the Channel Cats), along with LeRoi Hammond and Russ Kleiner (of The Nostalgics). Starburn plays ‘60s and ‘70s rock covers by bands including The Doors, Cream, Santana, and Vanilla Fudge.
Special guest this month will be guitarist BJ “Beej” Estares. When Beej was 14, he heard Janis Joplin’s Turtle Blues, and “from that day the poor boy has been lost in the blues forever.”
Turning to the British Blues scene through the Stones and Ry Cooder, he discovered bluesmen like John Mayall, Eric Clapton, John Martyn, and their contemporaries. This led him to the American artists that influenced them--Robert Johnson, Muddy, John Lee, and the “Three Kings:” Albert, Freddie and BB. Come and hear where his blues trip has taken Beej!
