Nicholas Carr: The Shallows

Author Nicholas Carr is coming to Colorado Springs to discuss his popular book The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains as part of Pikes Peak Library District’s All Pikes Peak Reads program in October. The book, a finalist for the 2011 Pulitzer Prize, is a poised, intelligent look at this cutting-edge issue that forces us to ask ourselves, “What is the price we pay for the Net becoming such a universal medium?”
APPR’s theme for 2011 is “Film, Photography, and the Influence of the Media on Our Lives” and features books and programming that investigates these themes and how they’ve shaped our past, are shaping our present, and where they’re likely to take us as we move forward. Carr’s work is extremely relevant to this year’s APPR program, as it discusses the inevitable consequences of a world in which the answer to our every question is always just a Google search away.
Carr will read from The Shallows and answer questions from the audience at a free event. A book signing will follow his reading.
