The MAT is changing its name from the Manitou Art Theatre to the Millibo Art Theatre and to celebrate we are hosting a “New Name” Party and Open House. Please join us as we dedicate the new Millibo Art Theatre with free circus and variety performances, hot chocolate and fresh baked cookies, art activities and tours. The formal “New Name” dedication will take place at 2pm followed by free performances by Jim Jackson, Birgitta De Pree, Mark Arnest, Christopher Keller and the Circus Millibo. For seven years the Manitou Art Theatre was located at Venue 515 in Manitou Springs but moved to a new theatre on the Westside of Colorado Springs in the Summer of 2008. The new name “Millibo” honors two young performers who had worked extensively at the MAT. Millie Harrison was a well- known and much loved performer, technician and stage manager who spent her high school years at the MAT volunteering for every possible job. She passed away last Spring from a rare heart virus. Bo Frese was an internationally acclaimed acrobat who performed in The Incredible Circus MAT and coached circus classes. He died in a training accident last December. “We miss them both very much.” said artistic director Birgitta De Pree, “and we want to honor their love for and dedication to live performance, their bravery and their incredible sense of play. We want the MAT to embody that spirit for many years to come.”
