The FCC Concert Series is presenting a peaceful concert for the winter solstice – warm holiday favorites, carols with their stories, audience carol singing, and new arrangements of familiar tunes sung by Nathan Bird, accompanied by his wife Naomi on piano, Carol Wilson on organ, and other local instrumentalists. A free will offering will be taken. Please bring a non-perishable item for the ESM food bank.

Nathan and Naomi Bird have been performing music together since a week after friends introduced them in 2002. Both are natives of Minnesota’s Twin Cities and are thrilled to return to Colorado, the place they called home for two years during Nathan’s graduate studies at Denver University. His musical theater roles include a sailor in the Guthrie Theater’s H.M.S. Pinafore, Father in Children of Eden, Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, Pharoah in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Frank Butler in Annie Get your Gun. Opera roles include Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Lucentio in La Bisbetica in Italy, and Remendado in Carmen. Nathan has a special interest in chamber and choral music, such as his involvement with the guitarists of Denver-based Massif Trio and the Minneapolis male vocal ensemble Cantus. Naomi has a music therapy degree from the University of Minnesota where she also studied piano performance, pedagogy, and music education. She has special interest in teaching piano to adult beginners and individuals with special needs. Nathan and Naomi live in Minneapolis with a three-year-old soprano and a nine-month-old mezzo.
