The program, Forgotten Female Felons, by Sherry Johns tells the stories of women incarcerated in the Territorial Prison in Canon City, CO. Were they truly evil women? Did they kill to avoid abuse? Their stories, told by costumed colleagues, will bring to life the experiences and humanity of women prisoners from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. The program will also include a special display of historical photos and the “Forgotten Female Felons” quilt.
Sherry is an author, historian, curator, feminist, quilter and history presenter. She has served on the board of numerous historical organizations, was the Royal Gorge Area Realtors “Citizen of the Year” in 2010 and lives on a farm in Southern Colorado.
