    Introduction to the Art of Encaustics

    This three hour class, morning or afternoon, begins with an overview of the historical background of the medium and a visual survey of contemporary encaustic art. Class is followed by demonstrations of techniques such as incising, line and edge, collage, use of oil pigments, glazing, stencils, monotypes and carving. Following the instructor demonstrations, participants will enjoy a brief (20-30 minute) hands-on encaustic painting session....

Class is followed by demonstrations of techniques such as incising, line and edge, collage, use of oil pigments, glazing, stencils, monotypes and carving. Following the instructor demonstrations, participants will enjoy a brief (20-30 minute) hands-on encaustic painting session. This introductory class is suitable for anyone who wants to find out more about the “hot” new art medium everyone’s talking about, as well as providing a foundation for those who plan to continue to explore painting with encaustics by enrolling in full day Painting with Encaustics Workshops.
